Remembering the Life of
Bernard A. Milton
A graveside service with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2019, at Andrew Cemetery, Friend. Cremation. No visitation. Immediately following the graveside service the family would like to invite everyone to the San Carlos Room in downtown Friend for a time of food and refreshments. Memorials have been established and may be directed in care of the family.
Bernard Arnold Milton was born September 19, 1929, in Friend, Nebraska to Harry and Margaret (Gill) Milton, the youngest of two children, and passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 89.
As a young boy, Bernard attended Friend Public School, graduating in 1947. He was drafted into the US Army Reserves and served overseas during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge, Bernie, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, returned to Nebraska and received his teaching degree from Wayne State College. He taught high school for many years and also was a school administrator. Bernie was well known for also owning and operating bars and restaurants near Dorchester and in Wilber.
He was united in marriage to Virginia Dalton in 1966 in Lincoln. In later years, Bernie worked part-time as a hail adjuster until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the DAV. Bernie was well liked and a best friend to everybody.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Virginia, Lincoln, daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Jon Burmeister, also from Lincoln, step-sons and spouses, Patrick and Peggy Dalton, Council Bluffs, IA, Mike and Kitty Dalton, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Charles “Chuck” and Rosie Dalton, Lincoln, Terry Dalton, Houston, TX, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bob Milton, his daughter, Denise Tilton, and a grandson, Darin Dalton.
