Remembering the Life of

Richard R. Miller

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at East Fairview Mennonite Church with Pastors Kyle and Brad Roth officiating.  Interment is in the church cemetery.  Visitation is Friday, 1-5:00 p.m. at Lauber Funeral Home, Milford, and with family from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at East Fairview Mennonite Church, Milford, and 1 hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.  Memorials have been established to the East Fairview Mennonite Church or to the Milford Food Net.

Richard Roy Miller was born February 15, 1930, at the family home Southwest of Milford, Nebraska to Ammon and Lydia (Birky) Miller, the fourth of seven children, and passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at his home in Milford at the age of 89.   Richard accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at East Fairview Mennonite Church where he attended until his death.  On June 24, 1951, Richard married Shirley Mae Roth and to their union were born eight children:  John, Mary, Don, Sherryl, Arla, Verlin, Rachel and Daryl.   Richard was the fourth generation to farm the family homestead near Milford where he supported his family by growing crops, raising cattle and hogs, and milking cows.  He taught his children by example, the value of hard work and the importance of family.  In later years, he drove a school bus for Milford Public Schools for 13 years and often fondly reminisced about it. Richard loved music and enjoyed leading congregational songs, singing in quartets and teaching music at Faith Christian School in Beaver Crossing.  He also spent many hours reading his Bible, reading it through yearly for the past several years.

In retirement, Richard was always busy.  After he and Shirley moved to town he created a beautiful backyard oasis, complete with a fountain and built a sunroom to overlook the garden.  He loved helping his children and grandchildren with their projects.  For more than 10 years, he volunteered his time to Food Net, and always enjoyed the many different people he met during that time.  He and Shirley made yearly trips to Oregon to visit their children and families there.  In 2017, Richard was privileged to be able to travel to Israel.  His grandchildren have great memories of fishing and playing Rummikub with Grandpa.
