A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Lauber Funeral Home, Friend with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Andrew Cemetery, Friend. Memorials are directed in care of the family for later designation.
Sharon Kay Thompson, 79, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019 at the Lancaster Manor in Lincoln. She was born December 5, 1939 in Seward, Nebraska to Edward A. and Florence E. (Armstrong) Jirsa, the third of four daughters. Sharon attended Friend Public School and graduated with the class of 1957. She was united in marriage in 1958 to David Thompson and to this union two daughters, Carrie and Christine were born.
Sharon moved to Crete and was employed as a secretary at Feed Service Corporation. After her divorce, Sharon was employed as a secretary for the Army Air National Guard in Lincoln until her health forced her to resign in February of 1990. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling and participated in several leagues. Sharon loved to travel and enjoyed trips to California and Las Vegas. After her stroke limited her activities, she enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles. She always had a great sense of humor and loved her Schnauzers, Whiskers and Scruffy. Sharon was an avid Nebraska football fan and loved collecting Mickey Mouse memorabilia.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie and Jerry Roth, Lincoln, and Christine and Brett Naber, Cedar Bluffs. Five grandchildren and spouses, Cory (Jackie) Sievers, Scottsdale, AZ, Alyssa Kaufhold, Lincoln, Danielle (Andrew) Rhynalds, Lincoln, Trevor and Chelsea Roth, both of Lincoln, several great-grandchildren, sisters and spouse, Marilyn and Vince Horky, Lincoln, Shirley and Jerry Frazier, Waverly, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Betty Harms, and a nephew.
