It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas More Smith, affectionately known as Tom, on October 15, 2026.
He was born in Portland, OR, on July 4, 1941, to John and Margaret (Hatala) Smith. Tom had two older siblings: Jim and Mary (both deceased). On Halloween of 1964, Tom married Barbara Blaumer of Portland, OR, and to that union three children were born: Matthew, Pamela, and Michael. Matt is currently living in Port Orchard, WA; Pam Smith Muller is in Phoenix, AZ; and Mike is living in Pottsville, New South Wales, Australia. Tom has five grandchildren: Noah, Riley, and Poppy Smith of Australia and Lily and Victor Muller of Phoenix. Plus, Tom has a great-granddaughter: Olive Mae in Australia. He was also a much-loved step-father to Teri, Mike, Brad, and Karla Kemper.
On January 18, 1988, Tom met his life-long partner , Diane F. Kemper in Gig Harbor, WA, where Tom was busy working as a real estate developer. Together Tom and Diane built a wonderful world filled with love, adventure and travel -- traveling to all continents except Africa and Antarctica. Tom's favorite travels were Ireland and always spoke of a return-visit to Ireland! Tom and Diane spent 23 winters in Manzanillo, MX, relaxing on the beach and Tom formed many life-long friends and treasured memories. Tom loved walking on the beach and Bocceball on the beach, even though he was not a great player, it was his way to meet new friends!
In 2019, Tom announced he wanted to move to Nebraska and on October 2, 2019, Tom and Diane moved to Milford, NE, where Tom enjoyed the small town atmosphere and made new friends!
Tom was a respected civil engineer, property developer, businessman, and community leader. He will be remembered for his determination, generosity of spirit, and his lasting contributions to his community government in WA state. Tom loved people and was loved by all, near and far!
forever loved, deeply missed and never forgotten!
