A Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Beaver Crossing with Msgr. Mark Huber and Fr. Maurice Current officiating. A Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, at the church. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Beaver Crossing. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
Betty Jean Geis was born September 21, 1928, on a farm in York County, Nebraska, to Arthur and Harriet (Hart) Rhodes, and passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at GracePointe Assisted Living in Lincoln at the age of 93. As a young girl, Betty attended a country school and later became a 1945 graduate of Beaver Crossing High School. She taught country school district #62 in Seward County for several years. She was united in marriage to Paul C. Geis on January 15, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Beaver Crossing and to this union three girls, Mary Lou, Carol and Julie, and five boys, Mike, Dave, Dan, James and Chris were born. Together they lived in Beaver Crossing until they moved to the Geis Family Farm in 1964. Betty was very active in her community and loved attending her children and grandchildren’s school activities.
Betty enjoyed sewing and gardening, was a 4-H leader for 25 years, active in the American Legion Auxiliary and served as the local, county and district president. Betty enjoyed volunteering at the Lincoln VA Hospital. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, active with the altar society and taught CCD for many years. Betty managed the Beaver Crossing Library and served meals on wheels to the community for many years.
Survivors include her daughters, son-in-law, Mary Lou Buss, Lincoln, Carol and Chuck Varland, Bend, OR; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Ginny Geis, Omaha, Dave and Deb Geis, Malcolm, a daughter-in-law, Natalie Motis, Davis City, Iowa, James and Connie Geis, Overton, NE, Chris and Kris Geis, Lincoln; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Adeline Geis, Seward; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul in 2003, daughter, Julie, 2001, son, Dan, 2007, a great-grandson, Abram, 2012, son-in-law, Yogi Buss, 2004, a brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Pearl Rhodes, sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Raymond Naber, Shirley and Daryl Taylor.
