Carol L Duba

Memorial Services will be 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021, at Lauber Funeral Home, Friend.  A visitation with family receiving relatives and friends is from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Food and fellowship will be provided after the funeral at the Friend Community Center.  Her final resting place will be in Dorchester Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

Carol Lynn Duba was born in Crete Nebraska on April 18, 1947, the youngest of three daughters, to Emil Jr. and Albina (Vozenilek) Shestak.  She passed away on Tuesday, May 11. 2021, at Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend at the age of 74.  Growing up as a farmer’s daughter, she helped her father with farm chores and irrigating the crops. Carol attended Dorchester Public School where she was a member of the band, glee/chorus, and pep club.  In 1965, she graduated as a member of the senior class. 

On January 22, 1966, she was united in marriage to Delbert Wayne Duba at the Dorchester Methodist Church in Dorchester. To this union three children were born; Delbert Wayne Duba Jr., Lynne Rae Rivera-Duba, and Albert Lee Duba. Carol divided her time nurturing a family, farming, raising cattle and hogs with her husband Delbert and milking her Jersey and Holstein cows on a farm near Milligan, Nebraska.   She started working at Shop EZ in Friend, Nebraska after their children graduated from high school and joined the military.  She worked there until her retirement in 2015.  During her time at Shop EZ, customers enjoyed her smile and friendly personality. During her free time, Carol enjoyed baking kolaches and rosettes for family and friends always making extra for the patrons. Maintaining a very busy life, Carol never spent a moment in idleness. She was an active member of the Saline Center Lodge 389 and the Milligan Senior Citizens Club. Carol enjoyed attending her children’s 4-H and school activities and their sporting events.  Later in life she looked forward to attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren activities as well as babysitting her great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; parents, Emil Jr. and Albina Shestak; sister-in-law Darlene Slezak and brothers-in-law William F. Slezak, Jimmie Zalesky and Jimmy Tupa, and father and mother-in-law Albert and Esther Duba.  

Carol is survived by her sons, Delbert Jr. (Junie), Albert Lee (Frank), daughter, Lynne Rae (Esther) and her husband, Jose Rivera, and Danielle Duba; three grandchildren, Delbert Wayne III, Anthony John, and Jesse D. Duba, several great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Michl, Mary Jane and husband Melvin Krupicka; sisters-in-law, Shirley Zalesky and Esther Tupa along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
