Diane Irwin Obituary

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Bellwood Mennonite Church, with Pastor Stephen Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Milford.  There is no visitation.  Memorials may be directed to the church.

Diane Kay Irwin was born on January 10, 1946, in Bassett, Nebraska to Walter and Neva (Harlan) Bussinger, the oldest of six children, and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at her home in Milford at the age of 75.

As a young girl, she was raised on a sandhill ranch and enjoyed doing farm chores with her father, who died when Diane was nine years old.  She attended Ainsworth High School and graduated with the class of 1964.  Diane furthered her education by attending Lincoln College of Design.  On October 16, 1965, she was united in marriage to Clifford Irwin in Ainsworth.  Clifford’s military service caused them to live in various places, first in Long Beach, CA, Chicago, IL, then back to Long Beach before moving back to Nebraska where they lived in Pleasant Dale, later Milford.  Diane was employed with Casey’s for several years.  In August of 2007, “Dee”, as she was affectionately known, helped start the “Guardian Angels of Milford”.  This ministry involved making blankets and delivery of blankets and layettes to many in need.  Over the years, she made over 5,000.  She was a member of Assembly of God Church, later becoming a member of Bellwood Mennonite Church, where she served as Sunday school teacher.  Dee loved sewing just about everything, including clothing for her family and others.  Dee was a very kind, caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, Cliff, Milford, daughter and son-in-law, Tanna and Mark Youngquist, Elkhorn, son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Laura Irwin, Union, NE, three grandchildren, Alicia Irwin, Paige and Bryce Youngquist, four great-grandchildren, Chance, Peyton, Spencer and Huck Pein, brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Susie Bussinger, Eau Claire, WI,  Ronald and Valarie Bussinger, Kearney, Brian and Lisa Zillig, Lincoln, Tom and Tami Zillig,  Overland Park, KS, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Dee was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Gene Zillig, and her brother, Robert Zillig.
