Dolores Lyons Obituary

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Friend, with Fr. Leo Seiker and Fr. Jim Meysenburg officiating. A Rosary will be recited prior to the mass on Friday at the church.   Interment is in St. Joseph Cemetery, followed by a luncheon back at the parish hall of the church.  Visitation is Thursday, from 2-8:00 p.m. with family receiving relatives and friends from 6-8:00 p.m. at Lauber Funeral Home, Friend.  Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. For those unable to attend, livestreaming will be available on the funeral home's facebook page at Lauber Funeral and Cremation Services facebook page.  Mask wearing is recommended but not required.  

 

                 Dolores C. Lyons was born November 9, 1933, at her parents home near Bellwood, Nebraska to Ben N. and Caroline M. (Meysenburg) Reisdorff, the oldest of seven children.  She passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022, at Hillcrest Firethorn in Lincoln at the age of 88.

                She graduated from Marietta Catholic High School with the class of 1951 near Bellwood.  Dolores worked in Omaha for two years at 1st State Finance Loan Company.  She was united in marriage to LeRoy D. “Roy” Lyons on October 24, 1953, at the Marietta Catholic Church near Bellwood and to this union four children:  Tim, Maureen, Sheila and Brenda were born. 

                Together they made their home in Friend where Dolores worked at Friend Public School as the school secretary from 1967 until her retirement in July of 2005.  Dolores loved and cherished watching and maybe even “adopting” children as they went thru the Friend school system over the years.  Dolores was also a member and served as an officer of the Friend Public School Foundation. 

                In her spare time, Dolores enjoyed doing things for other people, caring with a heart of gold and especially attending all school events when her children were involved.  Dolores always looked forward to and enjoyed going to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events.  Dolores was described as “Loyal, Compassionate, Strong” when she was awarded Friend’s “Citizen of the Year” award in 2008.

                She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society, Friend, teaching CCD classes and served as an officer of the Altar Society, was member of the building committee and church organist.  Cleaning the church, ironing linens and cleaning votive lights were just a few tasks Dolores enjoyed doing for the church. 

                Dolores is survived by her children, Tim Lyons and wife Cheryl, Seattle, WA, Maureen Lyons, Lincoln, Sheila and husband John R. Miller, Exeter, and Brenda Lyons of Winter Haven, FL, grandchildren, Janelle and Clint Williams, Dana and Matt Myers, John D. and Kilee Miller, Jacob and Macy Miller, Kelly and Dax Hinds, Stephanie Wagner, great-grandchildren, Chase Myers, Allie Myers, Jase Williams, Marlee Myers, Kye Williams, Maren Miller, Cecily Miller, Elijah Wagner, Jayla Hinds, Addison Wagner, brothers and sisters and spouses, Barbara (John) Dehner, David City, Marita Zwick, Milwaukee, WI, Dan (Sandy) Reisdorff, Lincoln, Pat (Dan) Conlon, Tempe, AZ, Bob (Marcy) Reisdorff, Lincoln, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, Patricia Lyons, David City, Bob Lyons, Hastings, Ron (Monica) Lyons, David City, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

                Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Caroline Reisdorff, her husband, Roy in 1987, son-in-law, Jimmy Hopson, fiancé of Maureen, Mel Knopp, a brother, Richard L. Reisdorff, parents-in-law, David and Adele Lyons, niece, Mary Snow and brother-in-law, Harlan Lyons.
