Edwin "Ed" D Burkey

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Bellwood Mennonite Church, Milford, with Pastor Stephen Griffin officiating.  Burial will be in Milford Mennonite Cemetery.  Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. 

Edwin “Ed” Darold Burkey was born August 6, 1960, in Friend, Nebraska to Darold D. and Imagene (Roth) Burkey, and passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 60. 

Ed loved growing up on the farm.  He attended Dorchester Public School, later graduating with the class of 1979.  Ed was employed with PSSI, Metro Group (now Experian), Farmland (now Smithfield), Crete Core Ingredients and Crete Core Commodities.  He was united in marriage to Renee Shandera in 1988 and to this union two daughters, Cassandra and Hilary were born.  He later married Hang Thi in 2004 in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam and to this marriage a daughter, Sally, and a son, Jim, were born.  Throughout his years of employment, Ed worked in the maintenance departments but while at Crete Core Commodities, he went to school to become a certified boiler technician, ending his career at Crete Core Commodities as a wastewater technician.  Ed was known for his hard work ethic and had several perfect attendance awards throughout his years of employment.  In his spare time, Ed loved to hunt and fish. 

Ed is survived by his children, Cassandra Burkey, Beatrice, Hilary Burkey, Dorchester, Sally and Jim Burkey, Milford, grandchildren, Adelyne Elaine Vesely, Dorchester and Rosemary Renee Burkey, Beatrice, his mother, Imagene Burkey, Milford, brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Kelli Burkey, Dorchester, sisters and brothers-in-law, Char and Lonnie Roth, Lincoln, Debbie and David Roth, Cairo, and Carrie and Erik Borgmeyer of Lincoln, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, Darold Burkey, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
