Loren Wendelin Obituary

A family graveside service was held Friday, December 27, 2019, at Pleasant Dale Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Loren George Wendelin was born August 5, 1940 in Hallam, Nebraska, the only child born to George and Leona (Nitzel) Wendelin and passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at Ridgewood Care Center in Seward at the age of 79.

As a young boy, Loren attended Crete Public Schools and later graduated from Malcolm High School in 1959.  Loren worked for Lancaster County and drove a maintainer for 10 years.  On June 16, 1962, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Brooks in Waverly and to this union two children were born, Terri Lea and John Russell.   Together they lived in Lincoln where he was employed as a meatpacker for American Stores.  His true passion and talent was working with heavy equipment and was employed with various construction companies until his retirement in 2006.  In 1975, they moved to an acreage west of Pleasant Dale where they resided for over 45 years.  During his retirement, Loren enjoyed time spent in his machine shop working on his tractors and steam engines.  As a family, they traveled and participated in steam engine shows and in addition, they also enjoyed polka.  He patiently tried to learn to play the accordion over the years. His admiration for the old was passed down to his children and grandsons.  Loren was an avid reader and was remembered by all as a very caring and loving husband, father and grandfather.  He loved deer hunting with his grandsons every fall, as well trapping and fishing.  Along with his love for the outdoors, specifically birds and trees, Loren was also known for his skill with baking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Jane of Pleasant Dale, daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Kevin Roth, Beaver Crossing, son and daughter-in-law, John and Tammi Wendelin, Emerald, two grandsons, Tyler and Mitchell Roth, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.  Loren was preceded in death by his parents.
