Paul Huber Obituary

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2021, at the Friend United Methodist Church, with Pastor April Wegehaupt officiating.  Visitation is Sunday from 1-8:00 p.m. with family 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lauber Funeral Home, Friend, and 1 hour prior to services on Monday at church.  Interment is in Andrew Cemetery, Friend, with military honors.  Memorials have been established to the Friend American Legion or to the Friend United Methodist Church.

Paul F. Huber was the fourth of six children born to John and Rena (Barney) Huber on the family farm northeast of Friend, Nebraska and passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln at the age of 91.

He attended Country School District #101 through the eighth grade, starting first grade at the age of 4.  He later attended Friend High School where he graduated with the class of 1946.  He farmed along side his father and brother, Johnny.  Paul was drafted for service at age 22, and served two years in the Army; 16 months were spent in Korea as a wheeled vehicle mechanic.  Shortly after returning home, he married his sweetheart, Charlene Weber and lived on the Davison farm for 4 years before moving to the home place when his parents retired to Friend.  They were blessed with three daughters, Paula, Laurel and Linda.  Paul farmed his entire life, taking pride in his land and livestock.  He was quick to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends.  He taught his daughters the value of hard work by doing chores and was happy when they gladly volunteered to help in the field, especially hauling bales.  Paul’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.  He built a treehouse, helped them make snowmen and gave them lots of tractor rides.  They loved sitting by him in his recliner.

Paul was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Ford-Bank Post #183 for over 65 years.  He would have celebrated his 75-year class reunion this month.  We grieve over his death and will miss him greatly, but we will see him in that place where there is no pain or suffering.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Jon Linner, son-in-law, Greg Sealey, brother, John (Vera) Huber, sisters, Freda (Basil) Bodwalk, Mary (Keith) Eich, Hilda (Stan) Schweitzer and Erma Clouse.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Charlene, daughters, Paula (Jim) Brennan, Lincoln, Laurel Hauder and Barry Conover, Eagle and Linda Sealey, Friend, his four grandchildren, Laura Chapelle, Molly (Evan) Taylor, Katy Blitz and Avery Hauder, his eight great-grandchildren, Kaelie, Traejen, Saelum, Rogue, Zane, Adelyn, Olivia and Anna, a sister-in-law, Sylvia Springer and a brother-in-law, Keith Clouse, several nieces and nephews.
