Memorial services are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021, at the Milford United Methodist Church, with Pastor Angela DeFisher officiating. Visitation is Friday 6-8:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Blue Mound Cemetery, Milford with military honors. Memorials may be directed toward the Milford Public Schools Foundation, Milford United Methodist Church and the Nebraska Children’s Home Society, Omaha.
Roger William Huss was born on February 14, 1935, in Fairbury, Nebraska to William and Mildred (Singleton) Huss, the youngest of 7 children and passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Ridgewood Care Center in Seward.
As a young boy, Roger attended Fairbury Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1953. He furthered his education attending Fairbury Junior College. Roger served his country by enlisting in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Meyer in Virginia. After his discharge, Roger returned to Fairbury Junior College and later the University of Nebraska, where he received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. On June 9, 1962, he was united in marriage to Rosalie Nelson at Bethany Lutheran Church near Axtell. This marriage was blessed with two children, Scott and Sheryl. He taught and coached junior high students in Osceola, Humboldt and Milford, retiring in 1997.
Roger was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church and served his church in many capacities. He also was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Nebraska State Education Association. Roger mentored in the TEAMMATES program. He loved to go fishing in his earlier years where he spent quality time with his father, brother and children. Roger loved following junior and senior high sports, as well as, his alma mater, the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Survivors include his wife, Rosalie, Milford, son, Scott, Shawnee, KS, daughter, Sheryl, Savannah, MO, four grandchildren, Alayna, Ryan, Jayden and Ella, nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Corene Mees, Betty Meyer, Jean Becker, Geraldine Frank, Mary Sawyer, a brother, Leslie Huss, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Merlin Mees, Dave Meyer, Kenneth Becker, Lawrence Frank, Junior Sawyer, Bob Tishendorf, Shirley Huss, Phyllis Tishendorf, nephews James Becker, Keith Mees and a niece, Joyce Betts.
