Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Milford Mennonite Church, with Pastor Tim Springer officiating. Interment is in Blue Mound Cemetery, Milford. Visitation/viewing is Sunday from 2-4:00 p.m. at Lauber Funeral Home, Milford. There will be no viewing at church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. The family invites everyone to attend a gathering afterwards at the Roether home at 720 B St in Milford following the graveside for a time of food and refreshments.
Russell Allan Roether was born October 17, 1947, in Columbus, Nebraska to Allan and Palma (Krofta) Roether, and passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln surrounded by his family at the age of 73.
As a young boy, Russell attended Clarkson Public School, graduating with the class of 1965. He furthered his education by attending Wayne State College majoring in Education and Southeast Community College, Milford Campus, with a degree in electrical/mechanical engineering. On February 5, 1971, he was united in marriage to Barbara Trumble in Alliance, NE and to this union three children, Jennifer, Eric and Sara were born. Together, they moved to Milford where Russell was an instructor for SCC for several years and later was an engineer for Brand Fluid Power Company, Inc. in Omaha, until his retirement at age 65. After his wife’s death in 2010, he was blessed with a special companion, Patti Schumann, and together her family welcomed Russ into their family. They enjoyed traveling, home projects, cooking and other adventures. He was a charter member of the Thornridge Golf Course, and a member of the Milford Volunteer Fire Department. Russ was a jack of all trades, and a master of most. In 2019, he was inducted into the Nebraska Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a drummer when he played with the band “Webb of Sound”. Russ also was a master carpenter and made numerous items over the years. He was a genuine, soft-spoken wonderful man that will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Scott VanEtten, Adrian, MI, Sara and Lyle Calvert, Cambridge, NE, son, Eric Roether, Lincoln, 3 grandchildren, Tyler, Mya and Aspen and one granddaughter due in September, companion, Patti Schumann and her family, all of Lincoln, sisters-in-law, Jane Trumble, Sharon Trumble, a brother-in-law, Joseph Trumble, all of Alliance, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Barbara in 2010, and a brother-in-law, Michael Trumble.
