As a young boy, Wes attended country school until the fifth grade, when he then attended Beaver Crossing School, graduating in 1956. He furthered his education at Nebraska Wesleyan University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Industrial Arts. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Ricenbaw on August 17, 1958 in Beaver Crossing and to this union three children were born: Darcee, Darren and DeLayne. After his graduation, Wes began teaching at Palmyra Public School and was an assistance basketball coach. In 1961, Wes had the opportunity to begin farming and later bought the family farm where his love for farming continued up until his death. He also taught school in Beaver Crossing, where he was the only shop teacher they ever had and went on to teach at Exeter as well. Later, he instructed a veteran’s class in Exeter for several years. In his later years, Wes was blessed to have his two sons join the family farming operation.
Wesley and Marilyn enjoyed many years wintering in Arizona and made life-long friendships. The highlight of his day was having coffee with his coffee buddies. A big part of Wes’s life was growing up in the Salem Church where music became a passion of his, singing with various groups, both in Salem and in Arizona. Wes was a former member of the Salem United Methodist Church and was a member of the York United Methodist Church, was a board member of the Farmers and Merchants Bank, Milford, and was a 4-H leader.
